Phone System FAQ

Are long distance PIN’s needed?

Yes.  Use your existing long distance PIN when prompted.  Remember that your PIN should not be shared and all users should have their own personal PIN for long distance calls.  Send an email to phonehelp@tcnj.edu when a new PIN needs to be assigned to an existing or a new employee and be sure to copy your supervisor on that email request.

What is Rainbow and how do I use it?

Rainbow is an application by Alcatel-Lucent. This application integrates campus telephony with remote-work resources via desktop softphone and mobile phone clients. The particular feature of interest is the ability to extend an employee’s office extension to their remote/mobile location. This feature enables calls to your office extension, to ring at wherever you’re currently working.

From a mobile device in particular, the app functions to mask your personal mobile identity behind your campus phone extension. Calls from the Rainbow app will present the Caller ID of your office phone number, not your personal device mobile number. In addition, the app will ring when someone calls your office extension AND allows you to call from the app directly to another four-digit on-campus extension. We hope this resource improves flexibility and efficiency when you need or choose to work from home.

Important Note:Not all TCNJ employees are registered with the Rainbow application. If you are interested in the service and would like to learn if you can use it, contact the IT Help Desk.

The Rainbow web app is integrated with TCNJ single sign-on so you do not need a separate credential. Navigate to https://web.openrainbow.com to login.

You can find the Rainbow app in both the Android Play store and the Apple iOS App store. When using either app, you will log in using your TCNJ credentials, just like you would in a web browser on a computer.

As always, if you have any questions or need any assistance in configuring the Rainbow app, please contact the IT Help Desk. Information to complement your use of the Rainbow app can be found in the Help Desk Knowledge Base here.
